The Young Disabled People ‘s Weekend at Avon Tyrell video was commissioned by The Southampton Centre for Independent Living, now called Spectrum CIL .
Over a weekend young people with disabilities, took part in challenging activities, role play, performance and brain storming sessions at Avon Tyrell. Avon Tyrell is a youth residency centre set in the beautiful New Forest National Park. The aim was to support the young people to unlock their potential and become confident independent adults. Their journey over the weekend was documented to showcase their journey ‘the yellow brick road’ to other young disabled people. The Butterfly Fx recorded all the activities and facilitated the drama and green screen performance workshops with Jenny Winterbottom.
SPECTRUM is a non-profit making Community Interest Company (CIC) and User Led Organisation, run and controlled by Disabled People. It works to a Social Model of Disability philosophy, seeking to affect long-term and lasting change in the way Disabled People are viewed, included and valued for who they are and what they contribute to society. Their mission is to help Disabled People to become empowered to live the lifestyle of their choice, and realise the same opportunities and control that non-disabled people take for granted.
